Description

Our reproduction is based on an original Egyptian sculpture from the Late Dynastic period (712–332 B.C.), now in the Museum's collection. The bronze cat figure, found in Saqqara, is hollow, indicating that it was probably used as a container for mummified remains. In its subtle modeling and stylized features, the sculptor has captured the lithe aloofness and dignity characteristic of the feline. A collar is engraved around the neck, from which is suspended an wedjat-eye pectoral for protection and well-being.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pretty kitty I've had my eye on this mini sculpture for a long time and finally decided to add it to my collection in honor of our "statuesque" Siamese kits. The lines of your sculpture are classically beautiful, the material used is a mystery to me, but is fine for this use. The only bit of disappointment I feel is that in your photo, the sculpture is artfully patinated around the neck and paws in a dark metallic bronze. My sculpture has only the slightest smudge of patina, visible only in very bright light. I still love the new addition to my collection, but I really would have preferred that the sculpture be finished like the one you offer on your web site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regal little Bastet! I own several Egyptian cat sculptures but this one along with the large one (also at the Met for sale) are my favorites. This is a solid piece that has some weight to it and is very well finished. It is a great collector's item if you collect cats and looks great on a coffee table sitting on a piece of cut crystal as a base. The price is amazing too for such an art object of high quality. Bast or Bastet was a goddess of Egyptian mythology and was an important part of Egyptian religion. Cats were sacred to Egyptians and almost every household had them as they brought good luck and good fortune to their owners. This is a MUST for anyone loving Egyptian statuary and at a great price too!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK but doesn't seem like bronze I got this as a gift for someone and expected it to be a metal statuette but it feels like a resin figurine. I'm not sure what "bonded bronze" is...maybe a synonym for resin. Overall, it's about what I expected but it doesn't feel like a metal statuette.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Sculpture This sculpture is a fine little piece for your desk or a cabinet of knick-knacks. The elegance of the cat is beautiful to have and the material of the sculpture is very fine. The bonded bronze that the MET Store uses for its sculptures is very high quality and satisfyingly solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little cat I purchased this with a gift card I received for Christmas - I had seen it in the Museum catalogs many times & was happy for the opportunity to purchase it. It is small & elegant, which I expected, however the "necklace" collar engraving is not very distinct. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute kitty Well made, but why the foam-backed adhesive patch on the bottom? If there must be a means of attaching the cat to something, e.g. a dash, why not supply the patch separately to avoid the trouble of scraping it off?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Egyptian Cat Sculpture I purchased this several weeks ago and was very pleased at the detail and general high quality of this sculpture. I previously purchased one like this on a trip to Egypt and this is just as good or better. A great small artifact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Egyptian Cat I bought this as a replacement for one that I purchased at the Museum for my Ancient Egyptian loving young granddaughter.  The first one was broken.  Of course, she loved it.
