Our set of four napkins celebrates a decorative motif on a maiolica pharmacy jar (albarello) in The Met collection. Storage vessels were among the most frequently produced maiolica wares in late medieval and Renaissance Italy. The decoration can sometimes link pieces to a specific workshop or artist; this jar was probably made in the workshop of Giacomo Mancini (Italian, active ca. 1540–60) in 1573.
