Description

Celebrating midcentury design, our fanciful reproduction pin was inspired by a stunning jewelry set in The Met collection. The original brooch and matching earrings were made about 1956–60 by Trifari, a noted American maker of fashion jewelry founded in 1918.

First seen in the post- World War II era, brooches in the form of exotic birds, animals, and bouquets were typical of the lighthearted adornments that stylish women favored, a taste that remained in vogue throughout the 1950s. Its style is in keeping with the period's trend toward naturalistic motifs in jewelry, characterized by asymmetry and a feeling of spontaneity and movement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Close but lacked the rich finish of the original I couldn't figure out why I was disappointed when I opened the box. I'd loved the photo of the catalog cover. But the blue covering the feathers was thin, showed the metal under it and showed the channels in the tail feathers. Wish they'd shown an image of the actual piece.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs a better clasp! It's a beautiful pin, but heavy. I've worn it several times & its fallen off each time because it doesn't have a clasp that locks in place. Not sure I can recommend it because of this important problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique! Beautiful Pin! At first I was not sure I would be happy with it because it looked like and aggressive bird, but it really implies with its position that it is ready to fly and not attack. The color is exactly as depicted in the catalog. The more I look at it the more I like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor imitation of beautiful original I believe the bird shown in the catalog was the original from museum with chip and bent pin and gorgeous. The enameling on the one received was more cheaply done and didn't match.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning! Presented it to my wife during our anniversary dinner. She loves it - which means I'm a happy camper. Coincidentally, she wore a blue blazer that went perfectly with the pin. Even the wait staff complemented her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful "blue" bird of paradise The pin is large to be seen without dominating the lady's ensemble. The shimmering quality of the crystals give the impression of great wealth--appropriate to a bird of paradise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. I was not sure about the pin after reading some of the negative reviews, but I bought it anyway. Very glad I did! I love it and it's a really nice way to add some color and a pop to outfits. Definitely have gotten some compliments on it.
