Description

The vivid bouquet on our elegant silk scarf recalls the rich floral decoration on a Sèvres porcelain plaque (ca. 1771) in the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm.

Some of the most beautiful and refined decorative objects ever made were created in France during the 18th century. In 1759, King Louis XV took sole ownership of the Sèvres factory near Paris, which he named the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. The innovative factory hired the best artisans of the day to produce costly porcelain objects—such as this sumptuous floral plaque—for the king, members of his court, and wealthy merchants.

Produced in cooperation with the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sumptuous! After seeing the Versailles exhibit, I fell in love with this sumptuous silk scarf in the shop. The vibrant artwork reproduction and quality of the silk fabric are what one would expect from the Met Shop. I wore the scarf recently as I gave a short presentation to an arts group and received several compliments. I know I will enjoy it for many years to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall, a nice scarf, but... continued from title..., but the descriptive intro stresses a reference to Scandinavian porcelains. Let's focus on actual silk entities (hopefully mulberry silk) in terms of origin, quality, momme, hand-added features, coloring modalities, texture, and visual attributes. Yes, it is an attractive piece, but an informed client would be wise to compare other sourcing such as the Kalfa generations from Soufli, Thrace/Macedonia/Greece, the silks of Ankara, Tblisi, Baku...as well as those from Bukhara, Tashkent and Suzhou. Shipping fees are absurd for a few ounces mailed snail mail from over-priced and over-taxed NYC. Superior packaging care and prompt delivery via ELTA from Soufli, Greece are amazingly more reasonable. Better yet, plan an adventure by visiting the aforementioned destinations and immersing yourselves in the local culture with vast silk selections to tempt and please all tastes. May all your journeys be as smooth as finest silks.
