Description

The porcelain factory founded in about 1740 at Vincennes, France, dominated European ceramics for the second half of the 18th century. The factory developed a superior soft-paste porcelain body that was whiter and purer than any of its French rivals, and also hired talented French artists to provide shapes, drawings, and prints for the factory's craftsmen.

Our candle evokes the pattern on a covered cup in The Met collection, which was introduced at Vincennes in 1752. The swirling, asymmetrical turquoise color must have appeared startlingly original when this object was made.

Our elegant candle was handcrafted and decorated in France expressly for The Met Store by Bernardaud, a family-owned business since 1863.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous candle I recently purchased this candle as a gift and have to say the candle itself smells wonderful and the porcelain container is gorgeous. I also love the fact the candle comes in a plastic sleeve so you don’t have to worry about getting the excess wax out after it has burnt out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly Beautiful This is an incredibly beautiful piece of porcelain - it is very well made - the colors and design are exquisite - I have bought two of them - plan to use them to hold a small bouquet of flowers in future - they are perfect in my living room filled with 18th century French furniture and 19th French impressionist art.
