Description

This colorful, interactive Advent calendar makes for a very special celebration of the holiday season with its elaborate, dramatic pop-up construction. While waiting for Santa to arrive at your house, open a window each day of Advent and discover what's keeping him busy. Santa goes bowling, and he plows the snow. Santa visits the tailor, and he performs onstage. Santa and his reindeer visit the beach, and they go for a ride on a merry-go-round. Discover a new scene daily.

The whimsical Santa images featured inside the 24 windows are details from vintage greeting cards by famed illustrator Barney Tobey, whose work has been exhibited at The Met and is in its collection. The central, inviting Christmas scene is based on an illustration by Catherine Barnes, another well-known mid-twentieth century artist.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful concept--imperfectly realized. This is the second time I've ordered a Met advent calendar and been disappointed by the quality of the images. (I've ordered others that didn't depend upon antique images that were lovely.) These older images haven't digitized well, and from now on I'll try to buy more prudently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waiting for Santa Pop-up Advent Calendar This is well-designed Advent calendar. I like that it uses art behind the windows that is from the Met collection. I would like to see more Advent calendars from the Met, both secular and religious ones, that use art from the Met.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waiting for Santa Pop-Up Advent Calendar It's a yearly tradition now to order an Advent Calendar from The Met because we, as grandparents, know we can expect our granddaughters to have fun while also learning about artists like Barney Tobey and Catherine Barnes. Thank you MET for incorporating fun, beauty and education all in one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Colorful, engaging, attractive The Santa Pop-Up Advent Calendar holds a prime place on the buffet in our dining room so that we can open each new window of Santa activities after breakfast each day. The Victorian living room setting is perfect as the calendar site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Christmas memories Pop-up books always generated "oohs" and "ahhs". Anticipating Christmas day using the calendar is a good way to cross off the waiting.
