Description

Bring the beauty of the English countryside indoors with this timeless pillow design featuring woodpeckers surrounded by leaves and flowers. Woven by skilled weavers on jacquard looms, the British-made, fine-quality cushion is meticulously hand-finished with a luxurious velvet back.

William Morris (British, 1834–1896), a principal founder of the British arts and crafts movement, is best known today as a designer of wallpaper and patterned fabrics. Designed by Morris and woven at Merton Abbey in 1885, the original tapestry's subject recalls Ovid's Metamorphoses, wherein the Italian king Picus refuses to be disloyal to his wife and so the witch Circe turns him into a woodpecker.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice, but the dimensions are not as stated. The item description gives the dimensions as 17" square, the same as the William Morris Birds and Acanthus Tapestry Pillow (Item # 80018676). The Woodpecker Pillow is actually 19" square, while the Birds and Acanthus Pillow is about 18" square. They're not the same size (in case it matters to you).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Years ago I purchased a tapestry pillow from The Met. It was made in France by Globus, and it is still in use. This pillow had coarse workmanship, and was so disappointing that I sent it back. I would have paid more for a better pillow, but this one just looked and felt cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful woodpeckers captured in fine workmanship High quality makes this pillow special. As another customer noted, the other tapestry pillow (birds and acanthus) is a slightly smaller size and has a different color palette, making the two pillows not exactly "companions." But I love them both! This pillow has more orange, pale green and teal colors so it feels a little less traditional.
