Description
The classic design of the Museum’s 19th Century English is based on an original gold pocket watch (English, ca. 1815–30) with a secondary basket patterned dial and blue-steel hands.
Quartz movement. Stainless steel case. Croco-embossed leather band. Case: 1 1/2'' diam. 9 5/8''L.

Art History
The first watchesthen more like portable clocksbegan to appear in the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century, after the invention of the spring-driven (rather than weight-driven) time-keeping device. In the second half of the 18th century in Europe, fashions in pocket watches changed dramatically toward a slimmer, less ornamented and more elegant style.
