I love this set. I actually first found this set at a Fabriano store in Venice (for about the same price) and it's what sparked my love affair with watercolor. Are these Schminke's Horadam (artist grade) watercolors? No, but the included Schminke Academie (student grade) set is better than most professional paints I've found.
You can certainly upgrade the brushes and you'll go through the small pad of Fabriano paper quickly. But don't overlook the utility and style of this artist's roll to take your watercolor as you travel.
This set is a good starter for plein air watercolorists. I think there could be more brushes or perhaps high quality travel brushes, but the make of the colors is wonderful the set easy to take with you
It’s a nice set, but if you are buying this for an artist, note that the included paints are Schminke’s “Akademie” line (student grade), not “Horadam” (artist grade), which is disappointing for the price.
I bought this watercolor set for myself as a Christmas gift. I have always been very happy with the quality of art supplies from the MET and who could pass up the lovely presentation?
Any adult with an interest in painting with watercolor would enjoy this great little watercolor set. There is a nice variety of warm and cool colors in the half pans, the paper block and the brushes are good, and the linen case is beautiful with The Met embroidered on the front. One would need a larger water bottle but otherwise it's a total winner!
