Description

Beginning in the 16th century, expanding global trade routes made pearls an affordable luxury for many. The elite of Renaissance Europe lavishly adorned themselves with pearls as symbols of status, taste, and wealth; irregular baroque pearls were especially favored. Our elegant necklace recalls the lustrous pearl jewelry depicted in European paintings in The Met collection.

These masterworks include: Judith with the Head of Holofernes, ca. 1530, by Lucas Cranach the Elder (German, 1472–1553); Portrait of a Young Woman with a Fan, 1633, by Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606–1669); and others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks fantastic on Very disappointed with the clip to close the necklace. Does not close properly unless the clip is pulled out. For the cost of this necklace (I bought this necklace the day before you had a sale) plus the exorbitant postage based on cost of item not weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegant Necklace with History in Art I gave this necklace to my sister for Christmas. She loves pearls and short necklaces that surround just at neckline or slightly above, and she loved it. Since it is a copy of a necklace in one of the Met's paintings makes it even more precious. Otherwise, I cannot speak for her, but I was attracted to the picture in the catalog and kept coming back to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice I bought this for my wife and she wears it all the time. She seems happier with this than all the other jewry she owns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely! I purchased this a month ago and love the way it looks on! While I agree with the previous reviewer's comment on the clasp, overall I am very pleased with the workmanship and look of the necklace.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful Necklace; cheap hasp I purchased this necklace for my wife for Christmas. She loves it. Only problem is she has worn it one time. When she went to wear it a second time, the gold hasp broke. The hasp is a very thin gold and very easy to break. Extremely malleable. Never had an issue before with jewelry purchased from Met Store. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful arrangement of pearls The braided necklace is stunning. It looks good over clothing as well as on bare skin with a lower cut outfit.
