Description

The Museum's sculpture is based on a model by Giovanni Bologna, called Giambologna (Netherlandish, ca. 1529–1608) that was probably cast in the workshop of sculptor Giovanni Francesco Susini (Italian, ca. 1575–1653). Giambologna's models were created for the equestrian statue of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, which was finished in 1594.

Produced in cooperation with the Princely Collections of Liechtenstein.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest horse ever ... This is undoubtely the most beautiful horse that was ever made. An original in bronze is horribly rare and extremely expensive .. this bonded bronze specimen is wonderful. It has a great "patina" and is really heavvy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful sculpture I bought this sculpture 25 years ago. It is still as gorgeous as the day I got it. I have gotten many compliments on it over the years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horse is beautiful, but base has quality issues. Bought the horse about a month ago. It came in and the horse was beautiful, but the base had two fingertip size blemishes that looked as if the final finish on the horse dripped off. Contacted the Met and they sent a 2nd one, but it had one such blemish. Still want the horse, but with a good base. Working with them on this now. Cannot recommend until they get quality issues under control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning sculpture! The Medici Horse is quite magnificent. It is heavy, well made, and has a great deal of presence as the photo depicts. Love the finish!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Distinguished display I have had this beautiful piece for many years. Tragically it was broken by a house keeper. For months I looked at the empty niche where it should have stood. Finally, I could take it no longer and when the time was right I had to replace it. Now as I pass it each day, my home feels whole again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exquisite! I bought this many years ago, as I slowly built my sculpture collection, and it still stands proudly among several other pieces from the Met's shop as well as other great museums of the world.
