Description

Our cuff links have been adapted from a 1645 etching by Wenceslaus Hollar (Bohemian, 1607-1677), after a Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452-1519) original. In this etching, the skull is depicted in profile from its right side and rests on a book.

Leonardo first began drawing the human skull in 1489. While his incredibly detailed drawings were never published in his lifetime, his methods of illustrating dissection seem to have been widely distributed, as they appear to have influenced the woodcuts in anatomist Andreas Vesalius' 1543 treatise De humani corporis fabrica.

These cuff links represent a collaboration between The Met Store and Tateossian London. The line combines inspiration from The Met collection with the renowned artisanship of the innovative jewelry house, for men's accessories that truly stand apart.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Think Twice! Beautiful graphics on the Met site but the product itself does not match the image. No writing around the edge, skull is just a picture behind a cheap plastic lens. You'd swear it was originally a prize in an arcade game. Do not purchase this if you are expecting Met quality. Purchased as an Xmas gift for our son. It's going back tomorrow.
