Lambswool Sweaters from The Met Store Make Perfect Gifts for Art Lovers
The Met Store is delighted to present a new line of women’s lambswool sweaters sure to elevate any cold-weather look.
Our new crewneck sweaters are crafted from 100% lambswool for comfort, and enhanced with stylish motifs from artworks in The Met collection. A softer alternative to the wool of a mature sheep, lambswool is a naturally breathable and hypoallergenic fiber.

Neutral, artful, and timeless, the Renaissance “M” Embroidered Women’s Lambswool Sweater references a page from Divina proportione (1509), a book of woodcut illustrations in the Museum’s holdings of drawings and prints, by the Franciscan mathematician and theorist Fra Luca Pacioli (Italian, ca. 1445–ca. 1514).

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's (Italian, 1452–1519) Vitruvian Man, a study of ideal anatomical proportions, Pacioli perfected the construction of the Roman alphabet according to geometric principles, stressing the shape of simple, monumental letters.

The Peeters Bouquet of Flowers Women's Lambswool Sweater is a head-turner with its striking palette of vivid petals against a chic black background, honoring the original composition by Clara Peeters (Flemish, ca. 1587–after 1636).

A Bouquet of Flowers (ca. 1612), on view in The Met’s European Paintings galleries, showcases Peeters’s keen eye for detail. Among the vivacious blooms are little dewdrops, insect bites, and drooping tulips that hint at transience and decay. The astoundingly observational composition exemplifies the connection between floral painting and botanical illustration during the Scientific Revolution, during which Peeters was active.

For a lighter, brighter look, the Van Gogh Irises Women's Lambswool Sweater features the Dutch artist’s beloved blooms against a goes-with-everything cream base.

Van Gogh’s (Dutch, 1853–1890) original vision for Irises (1890), now a highlight of The Met’s European Paintings collection, differed from what modern-day visitors to the Museum will find; rather, he described his endeavor to achieve a “harmonious and soft" effect by placing the "violet" flowers against a "pink background." The red pigments have since faded, leaving the painting with the blue-and-white palette we see today. Irises belongs to a quartet of spring still lifes that Van Gogh painted in May of 1890, just before his departure from the asylum in Saint-Rémy.

Questions
-
Why add a high-quality, art-inspired women's lambswool sweater to my wardrobe?
Investing in an art sweater crafted from 100% lambswool offers enduring value and style. Unlike fast-fashion pieces, a lambswool sweater combines longevity with a classic aesthetic, ensuring that it remains a wardrobe staple for years to come. The superior quality of lambswool resists wear and tear so that it maintains its luxurious feel and appearance. By choosing an art-inspired design, you’re not just buying a sweater; you're investing in a wearable piece of art that enhances your personal style while appreciating cultural heritage. -
Why choose a 100% lambswool sweater over a wool blend?
Lambswool is softer, warmer, and more durable than many wool blends. It offers natural insulation while remaining lightweight, making it ideal for art-inspired sweaters like those from The Met Store. Additionally, lambswool is hypoallergenic and breathable, ensuring comfort for all-day wear. An art-inspired crewneck lambswool sweater is a thoughtful and unique gift that makes a perfect Museum souvenir. -
How do I clean my lambswool sweater from The Met Store?
To maintain the quality of your 100% lambswool sweater, it is recommended to dry clean only. While some general instructions found online may suggest that lambswool sweaters can be washed in cool water with a non-biological wool detergent as an alternative to dry cleaning, that is not recommended for The Met Store’s lambswool sweaters.
