Description

Unique gifts for her, only from The Met.

These curving, blooming vines come from a Jingdezhen ware vase with floral patterns, crafted in China during the Kangxi period (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). Located in southeast China, the so-called "porcelain city" of Jingdezhen was home to the world's largest and most influential kilns by the 15th century, and produced numerous pieces for the court, for trade, and for domestic use. The development of blue-and-white ceramics (porcelain painted with cobalt blue under a transparent glaze) in Jingdezhen remains the most important and influential event in ceramic history.
