Description

An art calendar, only from The Met.

This artful long-sleeve unisex tee showcases Joan Miró's (Spanish, 1893–1983) Constellation: Toward the Rainbow (1941), an energetic drawing from the artist's Constellations series and now in The Met's modern and contemporary art collection. Miró's dreamlike style, inspired by Surrealism's engagement with psychology, presented whimsical allusions to reality through fanciful forms. Toward the Rainbow is the 15th work in a series of 23 gouaches on paper that he produced over 21 months from January 1940 to September 1941. The entire sheet is covered with hourglass shapes and a multitude of forms suggesting stars, eyes, circles, triangles, and crescents. Linked by thin black lines, the composition can be seen to evoke a constellation in the cosmos.
