For our tunic design, we have adapted the palmettes—a motif based on the fan-shaped fronds of the palm tree—that decorate two Classical Greek red-figure jars in the Museum’s collection, a neck-amphora and a hydria. These beautiful vessels were created in the middle of the fifth century B.C., often referred to as the Golden Age of Greece, particularly of Athens, when significant achievements were made in Attic vase painting.
